These have to be seen! Incredible pair of good sized vintage Balinese Carved tablets or wall panels portraying Rama & Sita from the Ramayana Epic Saga.
This pair of hand carved fruit wood tablets portrays the lovers Rama & Sita in a tropical forest as described in the Epic Ramayana Hindu Saga.
Please take a moment to look at the workmanship in these pieces, the depth of it, and the sheer quality. Even the sides are carved, the jungle vegetation at the foot, the overhead tree detail is incredible. These are possibly the nicest panels we have seen from Indonesia. Well lit, these two sculptural panels will draw much attention.
Currently setup to mount on the wall but these pieces could be used in a variety of ways to provide a wonderful a point of interest to any interior setting.
Old labels and inked symbols on the verso of each. Likely carved in Bali.
Mid-20th Century. 1950s -- 1980s.
Condition is very good for age with some expected minor losses. Last two photos taken under different light conditions to show depth of carving.
Each is approximately 19 1/2" x 9 3/4" x 1 1/2" thick. One is just slightly larger than the other.
Total weight is 5.5 pounds.
