We love this colourful painting! Original oil on board painting of the most iconic street in Hong Kong known as "Ladder Street". This landmark street is also associated with the book and movie - Suzie Wong.
The painting is infused with a wonderful energy, colour and activity typical of Hong Kong.
Colourful shop awnings hang over the street shading the vendors. From the Peak area down to the street level - this art work captures the essence of the city.
The street consists entirely of steps and landings formed by granite slabs or concrete paving. It was named because it extends straight up and down like a ladder. The street has been listed as a Grade 1 historic area and was constructed between 1841 and 1850.
Brilliant brush and pallet knife work with rich colours and thick impasto.
Signed W Lam H K Lower right.
Mid Century. Circa 1960s. Framed in gold & black coloured faux bamboo wood frame.
