Beautiful as well as useful Chinese deep red lacquer storage trunk of a good size. The leather wrap is lacquered in red and hand painted in old shades of gold with whimsical scenes of birds and butterflies amongst various flowering plants such as auspicious peonies. The back lettered with multiple rows of calligraphic characters mostly likely telling of the scene in verse.
This is a nice size, neither too big or too small!
Brass fittings and engraved brass hasp. No lock.
No markings.
Condition is very good with expected minor surface wear and loss.
Early to mid 20th Century.
