Antique American Oak Executive Office Chair by Johnson Chair Company, Circa 1890
We were pleased to find this solid oak Johnson Office Chair. Beautifully hand made with amazing bentwood arms terminating at the top with carved scroll-work. The high back with bentwood flattened spindles designed in a body conforming shape thats great for those long hours sat at the desk - it is a really comfortable and good sized chair. The cast iron mechanism with patent dates of 1887 and 1888 allows for full 360 degree swivel, tilt back/rock with spring tensioner, and provides for height adjustment. The mechanism works perfectly. The design of this chair was definitely ahead of its time.
Signed by the maker Johnson Chair Company on the cast iron mechanism.
Circa 1890.
Condition is very good. The chair originally had a cane seat which has been covered some time ago by a complementary aerated wood replacement. Also, the casters are modern replacements for ease of rolling.
