A sizeable and rather magnificent hand painted white porcelain covered bowl from China, decorated with red pheonix and clawed red/orange dragons and a mulititude of colourful flowers and pomegranates.
These are pieces are based on a old design from the Song Dynasty - such porcelain 'boxes' were used to present expensive or precious gifts on special occasions such as weddings or Chinese New Year.
Made in the Third Quarter of the 20th. Century this large bowl / dish or storage container has a multitude of uses around the home - for food or otherwise.
White glazed porcelain, with a snug lid or top. The flowers and fruits are traditional and symbolic in style, all very auspicious.
It's unusual to find a pair in excellent condition. The price is for one.
