Delightful Mid 20th Century goldfish bowl style planter with gilt - a very finely hand painted and richly enamelled ceramic planter in gorgeous pastel shades. There are two panels depicting traditional scenes of Chinese men and ladies in Chinese dress in their garden pavilion area. The round body is decorated with auspicious flowers, butterflies, moths, peaches, pomegranates, and other decorative objects all on a gold/gilt background. The background being gold indicates that this is a higher quality planter. The two main panels are attractively decorated with a border of pink and light blue lucky coin shapes. The inside area is decorated with five orange goldfish swimming amongst green pond weeds and as well as lily pads - an extra touch. Not only a beautiful piece but a useful size that can be either used as a jardiniere or just as a decorative ornament. The photographs do not do it justice. Excellent condition. Dia 14.25", H11.5".
