Made on the island of Macau, a former Portugese colony, now China - a large and attractive Chinese porcelain vase with tapered square-form body and hyperbolic neck with flared top rim.
Hand painted in a subtle palette of enamels against a very light celadon background glaze.
Unusual crashing pale blue stylised wave border at foot and greek key border at top rim.
Wrap-around scene portrays pink cranes in a lush marshland setting with lotus leaves and flowers that symbolise purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth
Note interesting way the scene wraps around the corners.
Condition is excellent.
Marked on the underside with the dynasty mark stamped in red together with a partial old Made in Macua paper label. Mark: Da Qing Tungzhi Nian Zhi - "Great Qing Tungzhi (1862-74) Period Made". 'Macau style' enamels c. 1970 to 1990.
