An old glazed stoneware Chinese 'egg pot' or planter from Southern China. This pot has traditional continuous coiling dragons wrapped around the body chasing the eternal flaming pearl. The dragons represent good luck and are carved into the outside clay before firing by hand. The dragons and other designs are a yellowish tan on a medium brown background.
The inside of the pot and top edge are glazed in teal/green inner body and rim.
Made first to second quarter of the 20th. Century - a genuine piece, not a reproduction.
In days gone by these were used for transporting and selling of 100 year old eggs in the local markets. Nowadays these are used as jardinieres or planters. Can be used inside or outside but keep away from freezing temperatures.  Dragons don't like the cold.
