Late 19th/early 20th Century triple woven Chinese Wedding box or basket, late Qing. This genuine hand woven piece is incredibly rare and very highly detailed, round in shape with small brass/metal accents on the foot, woven inner lid that is different from the outside, multiple layers on the inside culminating in the Double happiness symbol in the centre.
This was an incredibly complex piece to make. The depth and complexity of the work is simply stunning
It took a skilled basket maker many many months to make this piece due to the intricacy of the weaving in every single area - from the base to the fine triple layer open work on the sides, the banded & patterned edges, and the amazing top of multiple layers.
Mostly likely made in Southern China, Canton in the 1880's - 1900's.
A very collectable and rare basket.
