Made in the early 20th C. (1900-1915) in China, they were found in Shanghai . Traditional 'Ming' style - elegant and simplistic - polished rosewood sets off the marble which is held in place by tiny wood pegs on the underside. Such pieces were popular with the wealthy Chinese to show their affluence.
Each stool top is different. This type of marble is said to reflect landscapes, clouds and streams/rivers. Could be used as side tables or stands/pedestals - or for playing mahjong, their original use. They are of a good height.
Price quoted is for four.
