Each pedestal in three parts carved to fit together in precise form. Perfect for displaying busts, urns, vases or whatever is required.
Lapis is a semiprecious gemstone composed of several minerals including lazurite (which gives it the characteristic blue color). It was more valuable than gold in ancient times. Its rarity, and difficulty of carving (it has a hardness of 5 - 5.5 on the mohs scale compared to marble at 2 - 3) means that large scale pieces such as this are exceedingly rare. Lapis has been associated with royalty, strength, and courage and has long been regarded for its metaphysical properties including spiritual enlightenment, inner vision, and self-awareness.
No markings. Flecked with olive green, antique white/gray and copper red.
Condition is excellent.
We believe them to be 20th Century, Italian likely from the 1st quarter 20th Century.
Each is 41" high x 10" x 10". Approx 100lbs. each.
