An older figure of of the Laughing Buddha or Hotei.  The name Budai literally means "cloth sack" and refers to the bag that he is conventionally depicted as carrying as he wanders aimlessly about China. His jolly nature, humorous personality, and eccentric lifestyle distinguish him from most Buddhist masters or figures. He is almost always shown smiling or laughing, hence his nickname in Chinese, the "Laughing Buddha".

The moulded resin piece is carefully etched & hand painted with black, green and red inks - and signed on the underside between the rush shoes and bamboo leaves. He carries his coin bag on his waist and a fan that represents enjoyment and good fortune.  The robe is particularly well detailed.

The standing Buddha also symbolises riches and happiness.

According to Feng Shui, placing several of these figurines around the house fills the  home with positive energy and happiness.
