A magnificent pair of male Singha lions made of cast metal or bronze, highlighted with applied metal work decoration throughout. The pieces have obtained a patinated finish which can best be described as a very dark brown/bronze, black colour. The finish has over time taken on a very pleasing appeal. Hints of remaining gold colour remain in areas of less wear.
Around 11" tall, this design is based on Khmer Temple Guardians or Lion figures from the Angkor period - 10th Century and in the style of Banteay Srei. These guardians of the gate are placed around the outside of a temple to welcome and defend the temples' or religious 'wat' principal entrances.
Striking pieces that can be used in most rooms and with most 'styles' of decoration.
