A heavy high quality English Silver Plate Candle Snuffer, from an estate in the Lake District.
This candle snuffer, candle extinguisher, or douter is used to extinguish burning candles, consisting of a small cone at the end of a long elegant handle in this case. The use of a snuffer helps to avoid problems associated with blowing hot wax and it avoids the smoke and odour of a smouldering wick which results from simply blowing a candle out.
