Highly regarded & listed American artist Dennis Ainsley (1880 - 1952).  Ainsley was born in Illinois, the child of Irish and French parents.  He and his family traveled extensively in Europe, living in Brittany for a number of years.  Ainsley studied art there, as well as in Paris. He exhibited extensively, establishing a following for his colorful portrayal of the picturesque villages of the area.  Dennis Ainsley returned to the United States in 1920 and settled in New England.  While still maintaining his ties in Europe, he continued to exhibit throughout the Northeast USA.

'The Brittany market place' - a scene executed in an impressionistic style with soft, warm colours - and for any of you that have traveled there, you will recognise this charming and idylllic scene.
A masterful composition which portrays a lively market waterside scene with an open market square with old sailboats on the sea in the distance. A large, impressive work presented in a fine gilt frame.
