A superbly made and finely engraved match box with strike plate, made from sterling silver with a 24ct gold interior wash. Alfred Taylor was a very highly regarded silversmith of the time and this is one of his older pieces. The item is in excellent condition with no repairs, the lid is closes tightly and the interior is gilded. A perfect gift for a cigar smoker or collector of such items. Could be used as a pill box if desired.
Not monogramed on the reverse.
Anchor hallmark donates Birmingham, England. Dated 1857 by the letter "I". Alfred Taylor operated from 1853-1870. (Registered Nov 1851)
