Mid 20th. Century Export Nyonya (Straits Chinese/Peranakan) Purple 'Spring Flower' Ginger Jars / Urns - a Pair
Colourful Nyonya (Straits Chinese/Peranakan) export Chinese jars, lidded Kamcheng storage containers or urns topped with a green foo lion as the finial.
Cylindrical purple porcelain body hand decorated with bright enamels in the Nyonya style. Each depicts green foliage, pink flowers and yellow jasmine flowers with blue birds and song birds. Small orange side handles and each pot has it's own oval chop/seal on the side. A matching decorative ribbon could be threaded through the handles for extra decorative effect. Originally these would have had metal hoop handles. A pair is a rare find.
Signed in red on the underside with a four character calligraphy mark - which roughly translates as Everlasting Spring.
Made: Mid 20th. Century in China for the Export market - Peranakan Nyonya Jar - Straits Chinese Singapore.
