Sold. Impressive Vintage/Antique Belgian Wool Tapestry Emperor Maximilian Hunting Scene After Bernard Van Orley. This is a very fine antique reproduction after the 16th Century tapestry by Bernard Van Orley which is on display in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The scene shows the Emperor Maximilian with his falcon and the Empress in a forrest setting with magnificent horses and the hounds. Orley's original series of 12 tapestries represent the 12 months of the year and were created for Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor.
Woven with extremely fine workmanship. Retains vibrant colors.
Cloth labels are afixed to the back indicating it was woven in Belgium from 100% wool. Another paper label with the title "Emperor Maximilian..."
Early/Mid 20th Century.
Excellent condition.
A beautiful classic wall hanging suitable for many a room.
