The Bridge Ahead - Winter in Suchow, Chinese Watercolour Painting by Zhou Rong Bao
A very competently executed watercolour by Zhou Rong Bao of a Canal in Suchow (Suzhou) also known as the 'Venice of China'. This framed painting called the Bridge Ahead depicts a canal in the city with houses overlooking the water. A small wood bridge in the far distance gives this atmospheric painting visual depth as it disappears into the hazy distance. Grey leaden skies and wintery trees add to the atmosphere. Signed and red seal chopped by the artist in the lower right. Grey matting and a bronze coloured wood frame sets off the work very nicely. The artists exhibitions and shows are noted in the last photograph.
Dimensions: W28", D1.25", H23".
Condition: Excellent.
Zhou Rong-Bao was born in 1943 and resides in Suzhou, China. His paintings are representative of the Canals throughout the city of Suzhou.
His works have an architectural feeling to them. If you have visited Suzhou, you may recognise the buildings and have maybe walked across the very bridges in his paintings.
We would assume that this painting was bought by a visitor to the city and bought back to the USA.
