Small Late 18th. Century Batavia Ware Floral Chinese Tea Cup (Cafe Au Lait) & Stand
A delightful tea cup with a blue and white floral pattern. This piece of Batavia / Cafe au Lait ware has a soft brown finish on the outside with a crisp white porcelain inside hand decorated with a single prunus flower in royal/navy blue.
These wares appear to have been named after the city of Jakarta which at that time was the Dutch East India Company trading centre in South East Asia, or Batavia. A little piece of history found in an English estate 3 years ago - it's had quite a journey around the world.
Comes complete with its' own turned wood stand.
Dimensions: Dia. 2.9", H1.6". On stand H2.2". Condition: very good - one fleabite on the rim.
