Ming Dynasty Chinese Bronze Ceremonial Hand-Held Gong or Bell With Tripod Feet (Display Stand)
The Ming Dynasty ruled China from 1368 to 1644.
A rare form that sits on small tripod feet, and can be hung from a cord to sound the bell.
Early patina with Centuries of wear seen on the bell face.
Comes with the wood striking mallet and cord as shown.
The piece might have possibly had a dual purpose as a display stand (see last photo -- vase not included). If not, it could certainly be used as one.
Signed as shown on the bottom rim with two groups of hand carved Chinese Calligraphy Characters. The top group appears to have 4 characters (smaller) and the bottom group 7 characters (larger).
Condition is very good with expected surface wear, corrosion, and patina.
We believe it to be pre-1750 and possibly from the period of the Ming Dynasty.
A rare collectors piece.
5 1/2" diameter x 2 1/4" tall.
