Very Early Antique Japanese Atarigane Musical Percussion Bell or Gong
A rare form that sits on small tripod feet, and can be hung from a cord to sound the bell.
Early patina with centuries of wear seen on the bell face. Typically these were used in Buddhist temples, or possible on stage.
Signed as shown on the bottom rim with two groups of hand carved Japanese Characters. The top group appears to have 4 characters (smaller) and the bottom group 7 characters (larger). Inscriptions being translated as we write.
condition is very good with expected surface wear, corrosion, and patina.
The piece can also be used as a display stand (see last photo -- vase not included).
A rare collectors piece.
