19th. Century Antique Hand Coloured Framed Map of British Possessions & Protectorates in India and Ceylon 1835 by John & Charles Walker
India 1835 by John & Charles Walker fl. 1827-1895. A very interesting steel line engraving with full original hand colour by the above who were London map makers and engravers. They quickly adapted to the new medium of the steel plate which was ideally suited to their detailed and precise style.Their ability was recognised when they were appoint engravers to the "Admiralty".
These types of map look very classy in libraries, studies, offices or where ever you choose. Professionally framed in black with gold with matching deep purple/aubergine/maroon mat surround that picks up the colours in the map nicely. Protected by glass.
Excellent condition for it's age.(Excuse the reflections in the glass)
Further Information: India Index Map Xll - published under the superindence of Society for the Diffusion of Knowledge in 1835. India and Ceylon are bordered by the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal - the map shows the British, French, Portuguese and Danish territories on the left side, whilst on the right side the 'British Possessions' and Independant States are shown. A very interesting and collectable historical document acquired from a purveyor of fine maps in Hong Kong.
