Late 19th Century Japanese Meiji Period Satsuma Vase (1890)

Large and unusual Japanese Satsuma vase from the Meiji period. Circa 1890.
The body is superbly hand painted with figures of demons featured in rich raised enamels and lots of gold, one individual with a Ruyi scepter and talon feet representing Tengu. The other holds a box. The figures are painted against a beautiful graduated grey glaze background and the figures appear to be floating in the heavens infront of an antique white moon. Highllights of coral, pink, white and gold.
Intricate border designs and tassel-form handles complete the piece.
No markings found.
A very intriguing piece with some minor issues including a hairline stress crack at top rim and minor loss to one of the tassel handles.
Meiji period, circa 1890.
12 1/2" tall x 9" handle-to-handle x 8 1/2" diameter.
7.2 pounds.
