One of the nicest planters we have had the pleasure of selling - a traditional graceful form, the tapering body with waisted top, rim with gold edging. Exquisitely hand painted gold & floral medallions, some with raised bosses on the front and back in rich enamels.
The panels portraying a pair of oriental birds amongst a profusion of colourful flowers against a white/cream glaze with faux crackle glaze. The rest of the body painted with floral sprays against a black ground with meticulous gold scrolls. This planter must have taken an inordinate amount of time to complete by hand. The interior painted with swimming orange goldfish (carp) and delicate pond weed. Comes with complimentary matching wood stand.
The underside with "made in China" label, "hand painted" written in red, and the artist's monogram - a signed piece.

Condition is excellent. Some very minor repair to stand which we have to mention.

Vintage early People's Republic Period. 1950s - 1970s.
