Jingdezhen has been the center for the finest Chinese porcelain production for over a thousand years. This striking large planter, in traditional form with waisted rim and tapered body, is colorfully decorated with a wrap-around scene portraying little birds flying about lush flowering branches with persimmon fruits; lilac, pink, blue and white florwers. Upper plantain leaf border and lower turquoise, yellow and pink ruyi border below this. Four orange goldfish swim inside amongst greenish pond week. A very auspicious planter, full of symbology.
Hallmark on underside stamped in red indicating a Jingdezhen, China origin in the 1960s or early 1970s.
Excellent condition with firing flaws typical of this period.
15 1/2" diameter x 12" high. The stand raises the piece to a height of 21".
