A magnificent pair of male Singha lions made of cast metal or bronze, highlighted with applied metal work decoration throughout. The pieces have obtained a patinated finish which can best be described as a very dark brown/bronze, black colour. The finish has over time taken on a very pleasing appeal.
Around 11" tall, this design is based on Khmer Temple Guardians or Lion figures from the Angkor period - 10th Century and in the style of Banteay Srei. These guardians of the gate are placed around the outside of a temple to welcome and defend the temples' or religious 'wat' principal entrances.
Striking pieces that can be used in most rooms and with most 'styles' of decoration.
