Sold. We were extremely pleased to find this *Famille Noire Planter with the red period seal on the top of the rim. A most unusual feature. Exquisitely hand painted wrap-around scene that depicts a lotus pond setting buzzing with life and an abundance of pink and orange lotus flowers, birds, mayflies, dragonflies and bugs. A pair of colourful Mandarin ducks swim in the water.
Note the exaggerated eyes on the dragonflies and goldfish - typical of the period. Thick, colorful enamels represent the highest quality painting again typical of the period.
The white interior is painted with four oversized traditional gold fish amongst green pond weed.
Early 20th Century, Republic Period.  This is a heavy piece.
Condition is very good with some minor areas of glaze crackle on the inside.

*Note: If you need a matching pair an additional matching planter is available which is structurally sound. It has an internal crack and could be used as is (hardly noticeable from the outside) or it could be restored and the pair would then be of great value.
