A classic chess set made by the William F. Drueke Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1914 Drueke founded the first American company to produce chess boards. The company expanded producing many types of game boards, using high quality Grand Rapids wood craftsmanship. The company passed thru three generations before being sold to the Carrom Company in 1992.
This is a large 21" x 21" board made from solid walnut and birch. The box in solid walnut. The Staunton style pieces are carved wood, probably in birch.
Company label affixed to the board underside as well as the underside of the box lid.
Vintage 1960 - 1990.
Condition of this superb set is very good with some very minor surface wear in places.
T'he board is 21" x 21" x 3/4". The box is 10 1/4" x 5 3/4" x 4 1/4" tall. The pieces range from 2 1/4" (pawn) to 4" (king).
