Asian Khymer Style Gilt and Bronze Singha Temple Lion, Statue
A magnificent Singha lion made of bronze, or similar cast metal, highlighted with ornate gilt/gold decoration and wonderfully patinated. The piece has obtained a verdigris coloured finish which contrasts with the gold beautifully.
Around 8" tall, this design is based on Khmer Temple Guardians or Lion figures from the Angkor period - 10th century and in the style of Banteay Srei. These guardians of the gate are placed around the outside of a temple to welcome and defend the temples' or religious 'wat' principal entrances.
And this hard to find lion will guard your home too!
Dimensions: W4", D4.75", H7.8".
