Collectable and rare Japanese rosewood carving of a Foo Dog or Shishi on carved rosewood stand. This heavy okimono is of a mother crouching in a defensive posture to protect her precious offspring.
The attention to detail is amazing, from the intricate flared tail to the legs/paws to the glass eyes.
This is carved from a single piece of dense rosewood. The rosewood display stand is later - it matches the piece very nicely.
No markings found.
Condition is very good with typical very minor signs of wood checking.
Late 19th Century. Meiji period.
This piece speaks for iteself.
The figure alone is 12" long x 6" tall x 6" wide. The display stand is 12" x 8" x 2" tall.
