Antique Chinese Mythological Wall Hangings, Metallic Embroideries on Red Silk - a Pair
A pair of highly detailed, rare old Chinese embroidered panels, both depicting male forms atop mythical animals on burgundy silk. Intricately hand stitched detail on silk with both 'gold/bronze' metallic and silk threads. The colours are beautiful to look at - see close up photographs. Simple complimentary faux bamboo wood frames in gray/black shade. Back is foil lined to protect the pieces from 'pests and humidity'. Overall condition is very good for age which we believe is late Qing. Exquisitely detailed wall hangings.

This technique goes back more than one thousand years and originated in China. It was eventually introduced to Japan by Korean artisans. Coloured silk and metallic threads were used. Landscapes, mythological forms, flowers, birds, bold flowing lines, and abstract motifs are common in such textiles.
