Antique 19th C. Japanese Embroidered & Hand Painted Scroll / Wall Hanging - Edo Period Kakejiku

Sold out

Rare antique Japanese scroll/kakemono (掛物)/kakejiku (掛軸) portraying a Japanese lord or noble with his attendants on paper. Hand embroidered surround of cherry blossoms, bamboo and a symbolic crane. The "ten" heaven section is correctly longer than the bottom section, the "chi" earth.
Hand painted scene on paper with a gold/bronze 'brocade strip' at either end of the work, stylised faces, traditional robes and the scene in general indicates this is a late 19th. C work - Edo period, possibly early Meiji. The embroidery that surrounds the art work has appropriately muted in colour over the years, the art work (honshi) however is vibrant - it has been stored in it's own custom made wood box (one end missing from top section about L1/2"). Previous repair to lower end of scroll where the roller attaches, stave in good order - see photograph. Otherwise in very good condition considering it's age.
Actual art work W16"xL40" approximately.
Width with ends included 24"

Dimensions : 21.5ʺW × 1ʺD × 66.8ʺH
