1960's People Republic Chinese Black Lacquer Bluebird Pedestals, Columns or Pillars- a Pair
They are hand carved/incised and painted with a colourful wrap-around scene with birds including bluebirds, moths and butterflies amongst blossoming cherry trees with pink flowers, white and pink lilies, wild grasses and bamboo leaves that drape downwards from the top rim. Each display stand is topped with a large peony flower.
They are an original matching pair, designed together as a set, the detail is in the lacquer work that shows the hand carved /incised quality of each the pillars. "Kuan Cai" literally means "incised colors" technique.
One has a remaining label along the bottom edge indicating they were made in the "Peoples Republic of China". Possibly from: Yangzhou Lacquerware Factory in China.
