1920's Chinese Nyonya Straits Export Peranakan Lobed Blue and White Porcelain Vase with Pheonix
**Free shipping. Beautiful Chinese Nyonya Straits export porcelain in the Paranakan taste. Rare lobed body painted in rich colourful enamels with a wrap-around scene depicting the traditional phoenix and peony design on a white background. The rich floral & scrolled design borders are painted against a purple blue background.
The Nonya Straits people originally came from China and settled in Singapore around the 1600's bringing their own culture with them.
The Peranakans are also sometimes referred to as the Straits Chinese or Straits-born Chinese.
This piece was originally meant to be a vase. It was converted into a lamp at some point and then de-lamped. Now It could be used as a vase for dried floral arrangements or converted back into a lamp.
Markings: "CHINA" stamped in overglaze red on underside.
Age: Circa 1920s.
Acquired from a collector of fine Chinese porcelains who has amassed such over the last 40 years.
Condition: Excellent with exception of hold in base presumably for a lamp cord.
Dimensions: 11 1/2" tall x 6" diameter at widest point.
