Impressive and very heavy well made solid bronze figure of Buddha standing on a lotus platform.
This unusual and tall sectional bronze Buddha is standing atop a lotus base, further surmounted on a dragon turtle. Figure wears traditional long flowing robes, with typical hair and elongated earlobes.
An elaborate Mandorla is behind the figure exhibiting incised detailing.
Symbols in the palm of each hand. The lotus flower represents purity of body, spirit, and mind. The hand gestures is the mystic gesture of Taras and Bodhisattvas, often used when explaining the Buddha's teachings. In Chinese culture, one of the Four Auspicious Beasts is the turtle (next to the phoenix, the tiger, and the dragon). It is regarded as a sign of knowledge, perseverance, prosperity, and long life since it is one of the world's oldest creatures.
