Collectable and rare Japanese rosewood carving of a Foo Dog or Shishi on carved rosewood stand. This heavy okimono is of a mother crouching in a defensive posture to protect her precious offspring.
The attention to detail is amazing, from the intricate tail to the paws to the glass eyes.
This is carved from a single piece of rosewood. The rosewood display stand is later but matches the piece very nicely.
No markings found.
Condition is very good with typical very minor signs of wood checking.
Late 19th Century. Meiji period.

The figure alone is 12" long x 6" tall x 6" wide. The display stand is 12" x 8" x 2" tall.
