A rare First State print (1893-1903) with kira-zuri (mica dust printing) - reserved for expensive & fine prints.
This print is Makua Jidô (Kikujidô), from the series "Pictures of Noh Performances (Nogaku Zue).
The print depicts a female player with totally amazing hair style seated under a canopy decorated with a profusion of flowers. The whole scene is being looked upon by an actor in a blue robe.
The kira-zuri can be seen on the platform base and highlights both their robes. We have tried to capture this in the photographs.
This print has a strong color with delicate bokashi (graduated shading). The face is unmarked with the condition being: VERY FINE.
Oban size on washi paper. Signed & sealed by Kogyo.
Tsukioka Kogyo (Japanese, 1869-1927).
