A good sized 'Rose Medallion' porcelain umbrella stand with a gold/gilt rim and gilt hand painted decorations throughout. The body is hand painted in rich overglaze enamels primarily reds, pinks and greens. The main panels depict traditional courtyard scenes, traditionally dressed Chinese men and women in a garden pavilion setting. Floral scenes with exotic birds are between the figural panels.
The borders are a repeating pattern of pink and green foilage.
The body is otherwise decorated with auspicious objects which include various fruit and flowers - all hand painted. Made in China around the middle of the 20th Century. A beautifully decorated and a quality cylindrical piece.
Useful for umbrellas, walking sticks, golf clubs. These pieces are getting harder to find these days. Unidentified red six character chop/stamp on base.
